The word "slave", comes from the name/word "Slav", as in Slavic/Slavonic people. For centuries, Slavic people from what is now mostly Russia, were traded in markets from present-day Uzbekistan, all the way to Persia, until, in the late eighteen hundreds, the Russian Czar sent the Imperial Russian Army into Uzbekistan, principally to the Islamic city of Khiva which had the largest slave market outside of the Arabian peninsula itself. The Russians took the city, ending the trade in Slavic people as unpaid servants & unconsenting brides, which had used the Silk Road as the main part of the route from central Asia & the western steppes of Russia, to Arabia & beyond..
